My Skincare Problems Series: Uneven skin tone

This week I want to continue to talk about my skincare concerns. The concern for this week is my uneven skin tone. This is one of my biggest concerns because I have tried every single product to fix it. Unfortunately, nothing has worked. Also, I struggle with finding products that don’t cause sensitivity. Every single product (besides my face wash and moisturizer) I have used so far has caused my cheeks to break out.

From research, I have learned that you should use products that increase cell turnover to combat uneven skin. These are products like retinol and exfoliators. Unfortunately, these products are too harsh for my face. I have tried different types of exfoliators at different percentages, and they have all burned my face. For now, I am staying away from exfoliators.

Overall I have lost hope in getting rid of my uneven skin tone because the products designed to fix it make my skin worse. I have considered going to a professional esthetician for a chemical peel. A chemical peel is when they use multiple chemical exfoliators on your skin to cause a layer of old skin to peel. Once the skin peels, a fresh skin will surface with less hyperpigmentation. This is pretty much my last idea that I have to fix. However, I am hesitant since over-the-counter exfoliators burn my face. I’m afraid that a higher percentage of medical-grade exfoliators can cause much more damage.
